1. What is CAN's mission?

With a twofold mission, CAN protects and promotes (a) the influence, accountability and effectiveness of California nonprofits in a manner that builds their capacity to accomplish their missions and (b) the visibility, idealism and value of nonprofits in California.


2. What benefits will I receive if I join CAN?

3. What CAN activities does my membership support?

Your membership dues help CAN advocate for laws and regulations that are fair to nonprofits; promote nonprofit integrity and accountability throughout the state; save nonprofits time and money in financial management and reporting; disseminate information and resources to California nonprofits; and much more.

4. Where is CAN located?

CAN is headquartered in downtown Los Angeles at 520 S. Grand Ave., Suite 695, Los Angeles CA 90071, with a satellite office in Sacramento. CAN Insurance Services is headquartered in Santa Cruz at 1500 41st Ave., Suite 280, Capitola CA 95010, with satellite offices in Diamond Bar and Burbank.


5. Does CAN have local branches throughout the state?

No, but it works with a network of local organizations called the CAN Regional Partners Network, which work together and share information to boost advocacy efforts at the local level.


6. When and where is the CAN Conference?

7. What is the difference between CAN and CAN Insurance Services (CIS)?

CAN Insurance Services (CIS) is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the California Association of Nonprofits (CAN). CIS provides insurance services exclusively to members of CAN.


8. How can I access CAN Insurance Services (CIS)?

Become a CAN member! Once you're a member, you may call CIS toll-free at (888) 427-5222 to arrange for insurance coverage for your organization and your employees.

9. Do I have to be insured through CAN Insurance Services in order to be a member of CAN?

No, but you have to be a CAN member in order to be insured through CAN Insurance Services.

10. Does CAN give grants?

No. CAN is a state association of nonprofits, meaning its purpose is to offer tools, resources and solutions to help other nonprofit organizations become stronger and more effective at fulfilling their missions.
