1A: Successful Fund Development: Relevant Practices for Best Results. This workshop will benefit all who are actively involved in ensuring that their organization is performing to its fund-development potential. Areas of discussion include Board-Staff Responsibilities, Annual and Membership Giving Programs, Special Events, Major and Planned Gifts, Capital Campaigns, Fundraising Plans, and Marketing and Communication Plans. 1B: Peter F. Drucker's Tool Kit Five Most Important Questions. Through Case Studies and hands-on exercises, learn how the "Drucker Tool" can effectively position your organization and programs to add value in an increasingly competitive environment. Rossum developed the original "Drucker Tool" with Drucker and shares lessons learned from her 15 years of research on effective nonprofits. 1C: Effective e-Strategy for Nonprofits. This workshop shows how any nonprofit can develop and execute an Internet strategy to further its mission.  We'll examine how nonprofits are using the Internet, how they'd like to be, and how they should be. We'll give specific suggestions on how you can improve your website so it will offer lots for your website visitors to SEE and DO. 1D: Relationship Coaching for Executive Directors and Board Chairs. What if the executive director and board chair shared a common vision? What would it mean for the organization if it were an exciting, effective, visionary partnership? This experiential workshop will introduce the new model of relationship coaching, a powerful tool for helping EDs and board chairs step fully into their respective roles. Liz Callahan, Executive Director, The CBO Center, and trained organization and relationship systems coach.

1E: Ready to Lead? Next Generation Leaders Speak Out. CompassPoint, the Meyer Foundation, the Annie E. Casey Foundation and Idealist recently surveyed more than 5,000 next generation leaders across the country to better understand their career paths, what skills and support they need in their jobs, and barriers that may prevent them from committing to a career in the nonprofit sector or aspiring to leadership positions. This session will begin with a presentation of the research findings, and then move into a discussion of the implications this research has for individuals, organizations and the nonprofit sector.  Weʼll share ideas for how we should be developing and supporting staff, identify ways that organizations can become more attractive to next generation job-seekers, and surface the broader nonprofit workforce issues facing the nonprofit sector.  This session will be part presentation and part interaction and is appropriate for all levels of nonprofit staff, board members, and, foundation staff. 1F: Accounting for Non-Accountants – Financial Reports and the New 990. Understanding financial reports and accounting procedures can be daunting for anyone, but especially when trying to explain it to non-financial staff. With nonprofit organizations striving to achieve increased transparency, along with emphasis on the revised Form 990, it is more important than ever that everyone have a basic understanding of the financial reports and what they say about the organization. 2A: E-Technology on a Shoestring. Learn how your nonprofit can implement and use technology for little or no cost and compete with those spending thousands of dollars. This session explores all the various aspects of technology that can aid in the fundraising process from accounting and e-mail relationship building to grant research and websites. Actual examples of technology usage and results will be illustrated. Cody Sharp, Regional Account Executive, eTapestry.

2B: Overcoming Founder's Syndrome: Preparing For The Next Generation Of Leadership In Your Organization. This workshop will help you to diagnose if the syndrome is at work in your organization, prepare a founder for successful transition, understand the affects of transitioning a founder from an organization, and provide specific tools that can help ease the transition whether now or in the future to begin taking positive steps that will pave the way for the next generation of leadership. 2C:  Digital Storytelling for Nonprofits. A visually-based workshop on how non-profits have used (and misused) images to tell their stories and bring attention to their specific causes. The second part of the workshop will work as a case-study explaining his photo-documentary and book project "The Migrant Project: Contemporary California Farm Workers," and how it evolved into a unique art, humanities, fundraising and education tool for various non-profits. 2D: Your Employee Benefits and Universal Health Care: What It Means to Your Organization. With the coming presidential election, Universal health care has again become a hot topic. Both Senators Obama and McCain have stated their positions on the subject. This workshop offers an interactive opportunity to review how universal health care will change how you look at employee benefits for the future and the effect on your organization. 2E: Civic Engagement for Nonprofit Organizations. Research has show that sometimes it’s the lack of basic information about voting, such as where to go and when, that keeps voters from the polls. Sharing what they have learned with the Latino community can be helpful to other nonprofits in building the capacity of civic engagement organizations in getting their constituents to participate in the election process. 2F: Program Measurement: Using Evaluation and Outcomes Data. This workshop will help you understand how to document the success of your program by using the results from your program evaluations. You will learn how to demonstrate correlations with community change and show the Return-on-Investment or Value-Added Benefits of your work and how to maintain and improve the quality of your program. 3A: Strategic Impact Marketing. This session provides nonprofits with practical tools for ensuring that donors and stakeholders understand and support your organization. Learn how to strengthen your fundraising appeals, donor stewardship programs and public relations efforts through proven brand management and advertising strategies. Key discussion topics and learning objectives include critical elements of your nonprofit's brand; necessary ingredients for great advertising; and four steps to more effective marketing. Dudley W. 3B: Next Generation Leadership Forum. The U.S. Census Bureau reports that the first of 78 million Baby Boomers have begun to retire, with only 38 million Gen Xers to replace them. Join the discussion on how the nonprofit sector can work together as a collaborative network where information on emerging leaders is aggregated, shared, and analyzed, with the goal of turning the reports, articles, and studies into actionable insights. 3C: Bridging the Gap Between Your Database and Your Fundraising! Learn why and how database management should be more than record keeping but a tool to help your organization raise more money.  Understand what technology can and cannot do for you. 3D: Obtaining Low-cost, Tax-exempt Financing: Creative Solutions for 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organizations. California Communities can finance or refinance capital purchases such as land, buildings, and equipment (minimum: $1 million for property; $750,000 for equipment) for nonprofits at least 3-5 years old that can obtain a commercial bank loan. Learn how to access the program, current interest rates, cost of issuance, and credit analysis. 3E: The Six Principles of Successful Board/Executive Partnerships.™ This session enables nonprofit leaders to enhance their organizational culture by discovering the six principles that ensure winning partnerships between board and executive. With this training, you will learn the simplest, but often overlooked, keys to strong Board-Executive relationships; uncover strategic ways to empower all members of your board; and develop skills to effectively set achievable goals and evaluate performance. 3F: New Ways to Strengthen Nonprofits. Especially when resources are limited, cost-effective and creative approaches to capacity building are a must to keep nonprofits strong.  A new "virtual capacity-building program" in the San Fernando Valley, leading programs in Long Beach and the High Desert, and a large foundation's programs to support nonprofits will be discussed, followed by brainstorming with the audience.
