Florence L. Green, Executive Director, California Association of Nonprofits.

1C: Maximizing Newsletter Impact. Whether you’re an entertainer or a do-gooder, it’s all about connecting with your audience. See how recognizing your organization’s star quality, polishing its image and cultivating its fan base builds not only fundraising opportunities but priceless long-term relationships. Artists write from the gut, and so should you. Take the pressure off with exercises like “Writing the Worst First Draft Ever.” Kathy Crabb, Deputy Director, California Association of Nonprofits, and Editor, CAN Alert; Simon Glickman and Julia Rubiner, entertainment and nonprofit copywriters, Editorial Emergency, LLC, and editors of the newsletter Editorializing.

1D: Creating and Operating Multi-tenant Nonprofit Centers: Strategic Considerations. Many nonprofit organizations struggle to secure a stable, affordable, mission-enhancing workspace. Multi-tenant Nonprofit Centers (MTNCs) provide opportunities for cost-sharing and collaboration, with affordable services, space and community venues that support their missions. This session will provide practical information on developing, financing and managing real estate projects and networking with both peers and MTNC leaders. China Brotsky, Managing Director, Tides Shared Spaces.

1E: Ensuring Nonprofit Integrity. Successful nonprofits make integrity the centerpiece of their culture, practices and behaviors, because they know that a good reputation is a valuable asset. With the help of an accountability checklist, you'll walk away from this workshop with a clear picture of your organization's strengths and weaknesses, plus proven solutions for eliminating the weaknesses. Liz Callahan, Executive Director, The CBO Center, and Gloria Sandoval, Executive Director, STAND! Against Domestic Violence, and Board Member, The CBO Center.

1F: Cultural Competency for Quality and Success. In California, cultural dynamics are a central feature of life. Yet the ways and means for nonprofits to be ahead of the game on culture are not self-evident. Participants will review core concepts, insights from research and practical applications to everyday work. The session will draw on the Alliance for Nonprofit Management's Cultural Competency Initiative, a national endeavor focusing on power and privilege. Brigette Rouson, Program Director, Alliance for Nonprofit Management and Patricia St. Onge, Partner, Seven Generations Consulting. Presented by Public Health Foundation Enterprises (PHFE).

1G: Finance for Non-Financial Staff. Do you need to better understand how to monitor your organization's financial statements? Remove the myths and fears that surround finance. Understand best practices and internal controls. Know how to instruct your accountant in preparing interim financial statements and understand what benchmarks your organization is measured against on your financial statements. Gayle M. Whittemore, Green Hasson & Janks LLP, Business Advisors and CPAs.
