Presenter Profiles

D: Creating and Operating Multi-tenant Nonprofit Centers: Strategic Considerations. Many nonprofit organizations struggle to secure a stable, affordable, mission-enhancing workspace. Multi-tenant Nonprofit Centers (MTNCs) provide opportunities for cost-sharing and collaboration, with affordable services, space and community venues that support their missions. This session will provide practical information on developing, financing and managing real estate projects and networking with both peers and MTNC leaders. China Brotsky, Managing Director, Tides Shared Spaces.

D: Current Issues Affecting Volunteer Programs. DOVIA-LA (Directors of Volunteer in Agencies) will lead a discussion addressing the cost of managing and maintaining a volunteer program; the changing demographics of volunteers; staff/volunteer relationships; reasons people volunteer today; and how to target recruitment efforts. Panelists will include Barbara Bradley, CVA, DOVIA-LA Administrative Manager; Susana Campbell, Community Services Supervisor, City of Santa Clarita; Sandy Demarco, CVA, Vice-President Volunteers, Pasadena Humane Society; Joyce Dinnage, Committee on Volunteer Services, California Association of Hospitals and Health Systems; and Anne Lobsinger, MSW, Volunteer Coordinator, Maryvale.

D: Building Strategic Relationships with Corporations and Foundations. Getting funding from corporations and foundations is more than just submitting grant applications. With increased competition for funding, it is important for nonprofits to build relationships with grantmakers. Learn from experienced nonprofit, corporate and foundation professionals on how relationship building has worked for them – resulting in successful partnerships. Megan Cooper, Executive Director, Executive Service Corps; Fred J. Ali, President & CEO, The Weingart Foundation; and Jonathan Weedman, Regional Vice President, Wells Fargo Foundation.

D: Social Enterprise: Using Earned Income to Support Your Mission. Some nonprofits can create sustainability through earned income and social enterprise. Social Enterprise Leadership Forums bring together nonprofit executives with business entrepreneurs to share both groups' experience, networks and best practices and create sustainable solutions to social issues. Hear from forum participants how this convergence of ideas is leading to powerful new earned income strategies. Dave McDonough, President, Social Enterprise Institute.
