How We Help

CAN was formed in 1984 in response to an insurance crisis that threatened California nonprofits’ access to health insurance.  From its modest beginning of a handful of members, CAN has grown to more than 1,700 members strong.  CAN members are geographically diverse, covering all of California, as well as representing the rich spectrum of the nonprofit sector—from art groups to zoos.

CAN's mission is to protect and promote: (1) the influence, accountability, and effectiveness of California nonprofits in a manner that builds their capacity to accomplish their missions and (2) the visibility, idealism, and value of nonprofits in California.
