Nonprofit Integrity Act

group_of_three_peopleIn 2004, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed into law SB 1262, the Nonprofit Integrity Act of 2004. Sponsored by Attorney General Bill Lockyer and carried by Senator Byron Sher (D-Palo Alto).  SB 1262, as it finally emerged after extensive amendments, addresses two broad areas of nonprofit activity: governance of charitable organizations and fundraising by or on behalf of charitable organizations. The Act took effect January 1, 2005.
