Nonprofit Integrity Act
In 2004, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed into law SB 1262, the Nonprofit Integrity Act of 2004. Sponsored by Attorney General Bill Lockyer and carried by Senator Byron Sher (D-Palo Alto). SB 1262, as it finally emerged after extensive amendments, addresses two broad areas of nonprofit activity: governance of charitable organizations and fundraising by or on behalf of charitable organizations. The Act took effect January 1, 2005.
